Introducing Subject X
Despite the best effort of the weather we did manage to get some stuff shot over the weekend. Because it snowed on the second day we had to alter our plans slightly - so - instead of one short film there with now be three very short films/chapters. This is the first part and is basically about depression. I’ll upload a proper HD version tomorrow.
Just quickly boshed together a script for the short film we’re doing this weekend. It’s all going to be pretty off the cuff (since we don’t have any actors officially lined up yet) but it’s mainly about testing the gear and having some fun. We’re hopefully going to test some of the set ups that we have planned for the longer flick. Fingers crossed that we survive the weekend and don’t piss too many people off.
When raiding your parents garage, this is the kind of haul filmmakers can only dream of. I originally went in there just looking for some work lights that I could borrow. What I found was pretty unexpected:
2x Photon Beard 800W Red Heads (missing barn doors)
2x bog standard Work Lights
1x Fresnel 500W Theatre Light (with barn doors)
2x Gallery Lights
Although most of the kit is ancient (and one of the Reds doesn’t work) it’s certainly gonna come in useful and save us a fortune in the short term at least. We’ll be testing it out this weekend (and hopefully avoiding electrocution). In the meantime as mentioned I’m gonna try and fashion some ghetto barn doors that can handle the heat.

We’re heading into Sheffield this weekend to shoot a short film as means of testing some of our kit (namely the 7D and a bunch of lighting that I’ve got my hands on). The short is going to follow one of the characters from ‘Modern Leper’ and will work as a sort of prequel/companion to the film (but it’s mainly a test). Looking forward to seeing some good friends and getting some footage shot.
Had a decent response to the call for actors so far and hopefully (if all goes to plan) there’ll be a more polished script to look at soon. Tomorrow I’m going to try and nagivate my way around Wicks and Maplin and hopefully come home with the majority of the stuff I need for this weekend’s shoot. I need to try and construct some ghetto barn doors fro my ancient Red Heads until I can get something more permanent sorted. I reckon some sheet metal, a coat hanger and some heat resistant paint ought to do the trick.
The £5.20 budget might cause something of a problem though. Investors apply here.
